Marc Cucurella was a central figure in Chelsea’s game at the weekend, as he tends to be.
The left back spoke to the club’s official website after the draw with Ipswich about what had gone right and what had gone wrong, as well as looking ahead to this weekend and noting what he and his teammates must do better.
“[Conceding two] was difficult, but the reaction of the team was good. We created a lot of chances. If we play fast, we know we create a lot of chances, and we did that. Their goalkeeper made some good saves. We scored two, we could have scored more, but the reality is we lost two points.
“Now we need to come back. It’s the last moment of the season. We have done a good effort all of the season to be here, now we need to recover fast and think in another way, because on Sunday we have another tough game.”

It’s interesting to hear him speak about “playing fast” and how that creates chances. The problem so many Chelsea fans have had with their team this season, especially since Christmas, is that they don’t play nearly fast enough.
There is so much slow possession, even at home, and even against relegation fodder like Ipswich. The fans want it ramped up a gear, and clearly the players also recognise this. Things started to reach breaking point last week when pressure from the stands led Robert Sanchez to start playing his goal kicks long – and Enzo Maresca then had the gall to blame that pressure for the goals his team were conceding.
It will be interesting to see the approach against Fulham this weekend.
