With AC Milan turning back to the San Siro idea, the land at San Donato now looks to be a waste, but it seems that may not be the case.
In the past year, Milan have ummed and arred about the stadium possibilities, and even when a move to San Siro looked almost guaranteed, the club still requested a San Donato clause to be inserted into the move.
Now though, it seems like those plans are dead in the water, with a San Siro purchase being the preferred option, by all accounts.
So, this leaves us to question what happens to the land which the Rossoneri bought in the hope of making it home? Already, there have been several ideas thrown around, and the latest arrives from Pietro Mazzara, who wrote about the situation for Milan News this afternoon.
“What will become of the investment in the San Donato land made by Milan once the process for the new San Siro (perhaps) gets underway? The question is legitimate given the millions of euros invested, but that area will not be the subject of new housing construction, but will be used for the construction of Milan’s new sports centre for its youth sector.
“The current contract for the ‘Vismara’ will expire on 29 June 2027, and by that date, work on the new facility could have already begun. Which, over the next few years, once completed, could also host the first team for a few months.

“Yes, momentarily, because in the club’s plans, there is a deep renovation of the facilities of the Milanello sports centre. In November, during the pre-Real Madrid-Milan visit to Valdebebas of the Rossoneri management (at which Gerry Cardinale was also present), the Milan board made numerous ‘notes’ on how the Ciudad Deportiva of the merengues was built, precisely with a view to a renewal of a historic environment, yes, but one that perhaps needs to be updated to modern times.”
Whether it will still be seen as a waste remains to be seen, but there needs to be an answer found, definitely.
