Newcastle United have made first contact with Fiorentina in a bid to win the race to sign Moise Kean this summer.
Kean has been a revelation since signing for Fiorentina from Juventus last summer. The 25-year-old has scored 22 goals ion 36 appearances across all competitions for the Italian side and is the second-highest scoring player in Serie A this season.
Several sides are interested in a deal to sign Kean, with clubs including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Napoli monitoring his performances. However, Calciomercato are reporting that Newcastle have initiated first talks with Fiorentina as the Magpies look to see off the competition.
Eddie Howe wants to bring in another forward, amid interest in Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson’s expected exit. The latter is out of contract at St James’ Park at the end of the campaign.
Kean previously played in the Premier League for Everton, but struggled to make an impact as he scored just twice in 32 league appearances. After an impressive loan at PSG, he rejoined former club Juventus in 2021 and spent three seasons in Turin before his move to Florence last summer.
Fiorentina signed Kean for an initial fee of €13m (£11m) and would expect to make a significant profit on that fee.
La Viola are unlikely to entertain offers until the conclusion of the campaign, however, as Fiorentina target Europa Conference League success and a place in next season’s Champions League. Fiorentina are just four points from the top four in Serie A with eight games to go.
