Vincent Kompany feels that Inter Milan “deserve credit” for scoring twice from set pieces against Bayern Munich yesterday.
The Bayern coach spoke to UEFATV, via FCInterNews, after the Champions League quarterfinal second leg clash.
Inter Milan scored twice in quick succession at the San Siro.
Both of the Nerazzurri’s goals came from corner kicks. Lautaro Martinez scored first, and then just three minutes later, former Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard headed home his first ever goal for Inter.
The timing of these two goals was certainly significant.
Bayern had scored the opening goal on the night, via Harry Kane. This had erased Inter’s first leg advantage and shifted the momentum. But the Nerazzurri shifted it right back.
Inter didn’t have to wait long to do so. And the timing made it that much more of a gut punch for Inter.

Of Inter’s two set piece goals, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany says that “it happens.”
“You have to recognize the quality of your opponents,” he went on.
“Calhanoglu is one of the best corner-takers in Europe,” said Kompany. “And then they have Lautaro, and many players in defense who have a great leap.”
Meanwhile, Kompany admitted that “we have some regrets.”
“Not only about this match,” said the Bayern coach. “But also the first leg.”
“We created a lot of chances against one of the best teams in the world defensively. We could have scored more, and also done better in defense.”
“Now we’ll try to win the league,” added Kompany. “And then the Club World Cup.”
“Congratulations to Inter. It’s a shame, because I think we did well over these two matches.”
