Preston North End and QPR face off this Friday at Deepdale in EFL Championship.
Preston have picked up 49 points so far this season and the Lilywhites currently lie in 16th position. In their last fixture, Paul Heckingbottom's team suffered a 2-1 reverse against league leaders Leeds United.
QPR, meanwhile, have chalked up 50 points to date and have a bit of breathing space from the drop zone in 15th position. In their last game, Martí Cifuentes's men shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw with play-off chasers Bristol City.
The last meeting between the two teams ended with QPR bagging all three points courtesy of a 2-1 win.
Martin Ryan (PNEFC_Stats): Just one win in the last 11 for Preston as QPR head to Deepdale for the penultimate home game of the season.
Preston remain in 16th but would jump above their opponents with a win whilst QPR are looking for their 3rd win in a row at Preston and haven’t conceded a goal in 3 of the last 4 trips to Deepdale.
Still just the one home league defeat under Paul Heckingbottom, however, 12 draws from 21 games has meant a push for the play-offs has never looked likely.
Sam Greenwood is available to play after sitting out the defeat against his parent club Leeds. Ali McCann, Brad Potts, Jack Whatmough, Freddie Woodman and Ryan Ledson will all miss out though injury.
Ben Platt (W12 Podcast): After a pivotal week in which results could have dragged QPR into a third consecutive relegation battle, the team came away with four valuable points—effectively securing their place in the Championship for next season. A superb away win at Oxford was followed by a hard-fought draw against high-flying Bristol City last weekend.
With confidence growing and key players returning from injury, Martí Cifuentes now has four games to steer QPR toward a strong finish to the season. With many key players out of contract in the summer, it could be interesting keeping an eye on team selections. Ilias Chair is back in full training and could make the squad, while Michael Frey and Rayan Kolli also return to boost attacking options.
Ken Paal and Sam Field remain doubts for Friday’s fixture but may be available for Monday’s home clash with Swansea.
