Real Betis vice president José Miguel López Catalán has on Wednesday spoken out on the future of on-loan Manchester United star Antony with the club.
This, of course, comes amid what has been a stellar start to life away from Old Trafford for the Brazilian.
Antony secured a move to Spain during the January transfer window, linking up with La Liga outfit Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
And the former Ajax man has since looked a player reborn.
Already considered a key member of Manuel Pellegrini’s frontline, Antony has racked up eight direct goal contributions in 11 appearances to date.
Owing to such impressive exploits, chatter surrounding a potentially extended stay for the 25-year-old at the Estadio Benito Villamarín has, in turn, begun to mount.
And as alluded to above, this week, a fresh insight into the chances of as much has been provided.
Drawn on the topic of Antony’s future with the club during an interview with Radio Marca (as cited by Mundo Deportivo), Real Betis vice president José Miguel López Catalán explained:
“It wasn’t easy to bring Antony in and it won’t be easy to keep him. I think it was harder to bring him in than it is to try to keep him now because he’s already familiar with Betis. It hasn’t been easy, like bringing in players like Lo Celso, Fekir, or players of that level. When that river comes, we’ll cross it. It depends a lot on what the player wants, the relationship with the other club, and who comes for him, because there are projects we can’t compete with. We have the ambition to have these players, world-class stars, but we also can’t do crazy things. We’re going to try.”
