Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming that Vinicius Jr. was closing in on signing a new contract at Real Madrid.

The Brazilian forward’s current deal runs until 2027 and it was suggested that he will be penning a new one that would keep him at the club until 2029 or 2030.

Vinicius’ camp denies advanced talks

However, in a fresh twist, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic reports that Vinicius Jr.’s camp insists that a new contract with Real Madrid is not close at all and that there are no advanced talks over the topic.

From the Merengues’ perspective, they insist that talks have been ongoing for a while now and an agreement is on the horizon. But the winger’s camp maintain a completely contradicting stance to that of the club.

Talks have been going on for a while now, with Real Madrid initially offering Vinicius a contract with an annual salary between €15-20 million – which was rejected by the 24-year-old superstar.

The report suggests that the offer was close to the €17 million per year that he already earns after the completion of various bonuses, including winning FIFA’s The Best award.

Vinicius’ demands

After being rejected, Real Madrid asked Vinicius to tell them the terms of the contract he expected and the forward is believed to have made some big demands.

As per the report, Vinicius wants a historic contract that is in the region of the highest ever at Real Madrid – something similar that was given to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Breaking it down, the demand would be a package of around €30 million per year, which includes his salary, bonuses and a renewal bonus.

However, Real Madrid made it clear to the Brazilian’s camp that matching those figures would be difficult in a meeting in February. Since then, there have been no official meetings between the two parties even though the winger’s agents were in Madrid for the Arsenal game recently.

Vinicius’ camp deny there has been any advancement in negotiations and firmly insist that the ball remains in Real Madrid’s court.

They are also confident that the longer it takes for the club to come forward with a new offer, the stronger the player’s position would be as his current deal runs out in 2027.
