With Milan Škriniar currently on loan at Fenerbahçe and likely leaving Paris Saint-Germain, the club could be in the market for a new center-back this summer. While his departure isn’t official yet, it’s clear PSG is preparing to move on, making a replacement more likely.

Back in February, Anfield Watch reported PSG’s serious interest in Ibrahima Konaté, adding more intrigue to the situation, especially with questions surrounding the defender’s future.

A Paris native, Konaté is reportedly high on PSG’s wishlist as they look to bring him home. He started his youth career at Paris FC before moving to RB Leipzig, and now he’s firmly on PSG’s radar.

Additionally, one French media outlet has raised questions about Marquinhos’ future at PSG in their latest report.

Could Marquinhos be on the way out?

L’Équipe reports that Marquinhos’ future at PSG seems more uncertain with each passing week. At the PSG Campus offices, the reported idea of the captain leaving is no longer dismissed outright.

The Saudi Pro League have reportedly been pursuing the defender for several months now. Internally, there have been ongoing questions about his authority and whether he’s still the right choice for the captaincy.

Despite this, the outlet claims he remains a unifying figure, well-liked by his teammates, and has been re-elected as captain for two years. Nonetheless, Marquinhos also struggles to assert himself with teammates and rarely speaks up during halftime if the team is struggling.

If Liverpool and Konaté cannot agree on a new contract, the club might consider selling him to help fund upgrades to their attack.

According to Hamzah Khalique-Loonat of The Times, Konaté’s agent surprised Liverpool’s owners, FSG, by asking for a 150% pay rise that would push his wages to £200,000 a week.

That would make him Liverpool’s third-highest-paid player, behind only Mohamed Salah (£350,000) and Virgil van Dijk (£220,000).

Talks have stalled due to a sizable gap between what Konaté wants and what Liverpool is willing to offer. Meanwhile, PSG and Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation, turning up the pressure as the summer approaches.
