There is always a challenge at FC Barcelona for new players to live up to the legendary names from before their time. After all, history and prestige go hand in hand at any top club. At Barcelona, that reality is the same as well for any player looking to make a statement.
However, even world-class players need to make a name for themselves at a club like Barça once they arrive. No player simply gets gifted the opportunity to become a first-team regular, and it has to be earned through accomplishments and consistency instead.
For Robert Lewandowski, one of the greatest strikers of this generation, it was no different. Having arrived from Bayern Munich in 2022, there were a lot of expectations from the Bundesliga legend and he made sure not to disappoint.
Thanks to his incredible scoring rate, the Pole has continued to cement his name among the greats of FC Barcelona as well. Now, with his most recent goal in the game against Atletico Madrid, the 36-year-old ace striker managed to equal the goals tally of a certain Barcelona icon.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Lewandowski has now equaled the 94 goals scored by Brazilian legend Ronaldinho Gaucho. Moreover, it has taken the Polish striker a considerably less amount of time to match that particular tally of goals.
Whereas it took the Brazilian winger five seasons to score 94 goals for Barcelona, Lewandowski has managed to do it in his third season for the club. Moreover, with games still left in this campaign, there is a good chance that the Polish striker ends up adding even more goals to his tally.
In total, the Barcelona striker has managed to score 94 goals across 135 games for the Catalan giants since his arrival. This season alone, he has scored 35 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, and it is already his best output in a single season for Barcelona despite the campaign still not being over.
Last season, he scored 26 goals in 49 games, and the season before he managed to score 33 goals in 46 games as well. A consistent threat in front of goal, even when he is not having the best of games he has the ability to make any single chance count, something that he showcased all too well in his most recent game.
Now, with 14 to 18 games left to play this season depending on how far Barça progresses in certain competitions, Barcelona still have a lot to do. However, there are a few more names who could see Lewandowski overtake their respective tallies as well this season.
The likes of Pedro Rodríguez (99 goals), Juan Manuel Asensi (101 goals), José Antonio Zaldúa (104 goals), Neymar Jr (105 goals), Evaristo Macedo (105 goals), Eulogio Martínez (105 goals), and Luis Enrique Martínez (109 goals) are now all realistic targets for the Pole.
This recent goal also marks his 22nd goal in this ongoing La Liga campaign as he aims for the Pichichi award and the European Golden Boot. With Kylian Mbappe being his direct competitor in La Liga, and Mohamed Salah being his main competition for the European Golden Boot, Lewandowski needs to continue scoring to have a good chance at winning both.
