All the Roma decision-makers concur that Gian Piero Gasperini would be the right man for the job. Director Florent Ghisolfi and Claudio Ranieri have had some contacts with the Atalanta boss. The owners, the management, and the future consultant are in unison about trying to convince him, Sky informs.
On the other hand, the gaffer has yet to decide his future. He has hinted that he will leave Atalanta, either this summer or in 2026 when his contract will run out, but he hasn’t announced it yet. There’s a chance he opts to play out the final year of his deal to chase after the Scudetto dream one final time.
If Gasperini departs, Roma will be waiting with their multi-year project. He wouldn’t be asked to win right away, given the natural adaptation process, and would be properly protected from the normal difficulties a coaching change entails.
The Giallorossi will have to wait to learn more about the intentions of La Dea‘s boss. Vincenzo Montella is the top fallback at the moment, Corriere della Sera informs (via MSN). He would like to lead Turkey to the 2026 World Cup, but the job would be very attractive to him. Maurizio Sarri is also on the list.
It would be an interesting and perhaps not the smoothest fit. He’d go from one of the chilliest environments to one of the most chaotic. On the other hand, the squad wouldn’t need a lot of adjustments. A ‘Last Dance’ scenario is always possible and would be a nice story. Then, the success of their chase hinges on the other offers he’ll receive since he might get some very tempting ones.
