Former Roma defender Toni Rudiger recalled working with Luciano Spalletti at Roma.
In his pre-match presser ahead of Germany’s Nations League clash with Spalletti’s Italy, Rudiger said, “I’m very happy to be able to meet him again, he was a very important coach for my career when I was young.”
“He really brought out the best in me, as a young player coming from Germany,” Rudiger continued. “He taught me a lot and I’m happy to see him again, but obviously I will think about beating him with my national team.”
“We are facing a tough opponent, due to the quality of the opponents and the coach.”
“For me, Italy has been very important in the past, I learned a lot on a defensive level. And then I liked life, like the food: in Italy there is the best pasta and the best food. There are clubs like Roma, Napoli, Juventus, Inter, Milan.”
“In football you never know, but I am very happy with where I am and I don’t think about where the future will take me.”
