Manchester United hold concrete interest in Ipswich Town talisman Liam Delap heading into the summer transfer window – but they won’t be alone in their potential pursuit.
Indeed, the forward has garnered a lengthy list of suitors across the top flight, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all keeping tabs before they fully kickstart their centre-forward search at the end of the term.
To make things easier for the interested clubs, they know exactly how much they’ll have to fork out to prise Delap from Kieran McKenna’s grasp, as his contract contains a £40 million release clause in the event Ipswich are relegated come May. Given they’re currently nine points from safety, the Portman Road faithful are mostly resigned to spending 2025/2026 in the Championship.
Since his £20m switch from Manchester City last summer, Delap has enjoyed a stellar season leading the Tractor Boys’ line. He has notched 11 goals and two assists in 29 appearances thus far, which is nothing short of tremendous for his maiden campaign as a regular starter.

Alas, it’s no surprise he is set to be one of the major talking points of the upcoming window. He certainly fits the bill for INEOS’ desired signings, too, being only 22 years old but proven in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.
It also says a lot that Delap has been cherry-picked for praise by the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer Alan Shearer, who told Betfair (as cited by UtdDistrict): “Big clubs will be looking at him because I think he’s got something about him. He’s got an arrogance about him which I really like and he’s got an aura.
“He’s already been linked with a number of clubs in the Premier League, and looking at who he’s been linked with, I think he can go in and command a starting role because he’s better than anything Man United have got up front.
“I think the good sign is that he’s done really well in a struggling team and has, without a doubt, been the standout. They’ll do well to keep hold of him and Ipswich fans will not want to hear that.
“Having had a taste of the Premier League, he won’t want to go back to the Championship.”
