Everton are interested in signing Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer after his excellent season in the Championship.
Everton are keen on Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer as they look to add more creativity to their side in the summer window.
The Toffees have enjoyed a positive run since David Moyes returned to Goodison Park, with the Scotsman leading the team to safety.
However, a big summer awaits for Everton, who are moving into their new stadium, as a whole host of players are out of contract.
Therefore, new recruits will be required to strengthen the group, and TEAMtalk has revealed that Hamer is among the options that the Merseyside outfit are considering.
The update explains that Everton are also looking at Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, although that may not be realistic due to the price tag that Chelsea will demand for the ex-Everton man.
So, they have other players on their shortlist, with Hamer’s name mentioned after his excellent individual campaign for the Blades.
Hamer has scored nine goals and registered seven assists for Chris Wilder’s side this season, with his performances seeing him named as Player of the Year for the entire division.
With that in mind, it is going to be difficult for Sheffield United to retain Hamer, and they will know his displays will attract attention.
At 27, the former Coventry man knows he might not have many more opportunities to make the switch to the Premier League, so he is sure to be open to that opportunity if Everton, or anyone else, firms up their interest.
Yet, the reality is the immediate priority for Hamer and Sheffield United will be reaching the top-flight with the Blades, in which case it’s hard to see the club agreeing to let their best player move on.
The Yorkshire outfit will be in the play-offs, so they have a real chance of winning promotion, and Hamer will be key to their chances.
Obviously, another year in the Championship would bring financial implications, and Hamer is undoubtedly one of the most valuable assets at Bramall Lane, so a big sale may be required to balance the books.
There’s no potential fee mentioned, but the Blades paid £15m to sign the attacking midfielder, so you would expect them to make a profit if they were forced to cash in.
