The Pilgrims have been putting up a strong fight over the last few weeks, but defeat to Middlesbrough on Good Friday now leaves them three points adrift of 21st-placed Derby County, as well as a significantly worse goal difference than the surrounding teams, with three games to play.

It's been both an exciting and frustrating few years for Argyle supporters, having seen their club climb from League Two all the way to the Championship in the space of four seasons between 2019/20-2023/24.

However, the Greens haven't been able to build on their second tier survival from last season, and now majority club owner Simon Hallett will surely be preparing for life back in League One.

We asked our Plymouth Argyle fan pundit, Chris: ''Are you confident your club's owner(s) has the club's best interests at heart or not?'

Chris said: "Looking at recent news articles of fans' frustrations with their owners, I feel very happy and confident that we have a fantastic ownership of our club.

"Simon Hallett has done wonders for the club since joining, and has helped us come from the depths of League Two, all the way back up to Championship football.

"Not only that, he's helped to grow our profits, helped to stabilise our finances, and also helped to attract new investment opportunities, as well as being able to bring in high-quality players and management.

"This in turn is something I believe shows their transparency, as they've told us a lot of their decisions, and the decisions they haven't been able to tell us are due to legal reasons, rather than deciding to withhold them.

"Considering ownerships such as Reading and Sheffield Wednesday, and the fans' disgruntlement against those owners, I believe the fans overall should be very appreciative of Simon Hallett, and the rest of the chairman's staff."

Simon Hallett knows how he wants to run Plymouth Argyle, and Pilgrims supporters must surely agree with his methods

Becoming Plymouth's majority shareholder, and then later the club's chairman in 2018, Argyle have largely been on the rise under Hallett's tenureship at Home Park.

The 69-year-old has recently agreed to sell shares in the club to new investors, as he continues to search for ways to safeguard the club's financial future.

Therefore, despite the club's struggles in the second tier this season, many Plymouth fans will surely be confident that Hallett does indeed have the club's best interests at heart.

Speaking via the club's website in early January, Hallett said: "Having the resources to buy the best players doesn’t guarantee success but it certainly helps, and many coaches have benefited from clubs with much larger revenue bases than ours or from shareholders willing to risk financial losses and consequent financial instability.

"That is very much the case in the Championship where average losses are £25 million a year and where a minimum of three clubs every year benefit from enormous parachute payments that follow relegation from the Premier League.

"As you all know, we have taken a different approach. We seek financial stability, while generating enough revenues to fund a competitive first-team squad, if we spend our money wisely and make good decisions as often as possible.

"Like all football clubs, we get money from ticket sales, the Argyle Superstore, sponsorship, media and net player sales. We all get the same media money, and we have one of the smallest stadiums in the division - so we must compete by generating revenue in other areas."
