Bild reports that the current signs indicate that Borussia Mönchengladbach central defender Ko Itakura will leave the club in the summer.

Despite Gladbach currently sitting in 5th and having a good chance of qualifying for European football this season, Itakura may be sold in the summer.

The Japanese international’s contract at Borussia Park expires in 2026, and at the moment, he is seemingly not interested in extending his contract early. As Gladbach do not want to be put in the same position as they were with Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Matthias Ginter, they will be forced to sell him in the summer. Itakura is already attracting interest from clubs across Europe due to his performances this season.

A departure of the Japanese international could open a pathway for Fabio Chiarodia, the Italian has struggled for game time since joining from Werder Bremen. After the performances of Lukas Ullrich when he was thrown in, the same opportunity could be offered to Chiarodia.
