As his first year in charge of St. Pauli draws to a close, Kiezkicker head coach Alexander Blessin is currently attracting interest from two Bundesliga clubs. Blessin – himself procured as a replacement by St. Pauli after Brighton & Hove Albion snatched up Fabian Hürzeler last summer – has helped the newly-promoted club remain above the relegation fray.

In 15th place on 29 points after 29 games, St. Pauli’s chances of avoiding the drop appear solid. Blessin’s team presently find themselves seven points above the promotion-relegation playoff spot. Sources report that both Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg are interested in hiring the 51-year-old after dismissing their current head coaches.

Hoffenheim are known to want rid of current head coach Christian Ilzer. The Hamburger Abendblatt reports that Blessin is a candidate in both Sinsheim and with Germany’s green company team. Lower Saxony’s Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung confirms the Blessin to Wolfsburg links and also lists several other candidates to replace current head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl.

Hasenhüttl’s inconsistent Wolfsburg appear set to miss out on Europe for the fourth consecutive season. WAZ also mentions Paderborn’s Lukas Kwasniok as a potential candidate for the position. Hasenhüttl was hired by previous VfL personnel chief Marcel Schäfer before the Wolfsburg executive moved to RB Leipzig.

New top sporting executive Peter Christiansen, a Dane, may wish to bring in one of his fellow countrymen to coach the team. It is such that the WAZ also mentions that former Mainz and Union Berlin head coach Bo Svensson and Jacob Neestrup (from Christiansen’s former club of FC Copenhagen) could be in line to replace Hasenhüttl.
