Tottenham Hotspur Injury Update: Kulusevski, Bergvall and Danso Eye Key Returns Ahead of Pivotal Month

As the business end of the season arrives, Tottenham Hotspur find themselves staring down a defining April. Still floundering in 14th place in the Premier League, attention increasingly shifts toward Europe, where a high-stakes Europa League quarter-final against Eintracht Frankfurt could either salvage the season or prompt yet more managerial speculation around Ange Postecoglou.

With a London derby against Chelsea up first after an extended break, Spurs fans will be keeping a close eye on fitness updates. And while injuries have played their part in derailing momentum, signs suggest a few key names might be ready to return.

Bergvall Expected to Feature After International Illness

Lucas Bergvall, one of Tottenham Hotspur’s more intriguing recent acquisitions, was ruled out of Sweden’s two March friendlies – including a surprise defeat to Luxembourg – after battling illness. Though he was called up and even made the bench, the teenager was sidelined due to what Swedish boss Jon Dahl Tomasson described as a cold.

Bergvall had come on at half-time in Spurs’ 3-0 defeat at Fulham prior to the break, a brief cameo which underlined his growing importance to the squad. His early return to North London has given the medical team ample time to assess him, and the signs point to him being fit for Thursday’s crucial visit to Stamford Bridge.

For a side lacking midfield energy and invention, Bergvall’s availability could provide a timely boost – especially with Frankfurt looming on the horizon.

Kulusevski Still Under Watch After Foot Injury

Dejan Kulusevski hasn’t featured since late February, when Tottenham lost narrowly to Manchester City at home. A foot injury has kept him sidelined for four consecutive matches, including both legs of the Europa League last-16 tie against AZ Alkmaar.

Postecoglou had been cautious in his pre-international break assessments, stating that the Swedish winger was not expected back before the March fixtures – and that projection proved accurate. Now, with Chelsea on the horizon and the European quarter-final edging closer, Spurs will be hoping for positive news.

There’s no definitive confirmation just yet, but barring setbacks, Kulusevski may be in contention sometime this month. His creativity, directness and work rate have been sorely missed in recent weeks.

Potential return date: April

Danso Races Against Time After Bournemouth Setback

Kevin Danso, who has made an impressive start to life at Spurs following his January loan from Lens, suffered a hamstring injury in the late stages of the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on March 9. The timing of the setback was particularly unfortunate given how solid he had looked in central defence.

Postecoglou remained hopeful, telling reporters they needed to “let the injury settle” before giving a firm timeline. Optimism remains that the Austrian centre-back could return after the international break – but whether Thursday’s clash comes too soon is still uncertain.

With Cristian Romero’s fitness still being carefully managed and Radu Dragusin ruled out for the season, Danso’s return would be welcomed.

Potential return date: April

Other Injury Updates: Richarlison and Dragusin

Richarlison’s season continues to be a patchwork of starts and setbacks. The Brazilian forward last played in early February, missing out since then due to a calf issue. Postecoglou indicated before the break that he was “there or thereabouts,” suggesting a possible return this week.

Meanwhile, Radu Dragusin remains sidelined following surgery on a serious ACL injury suffered in February’s Europa League win over Elfsborg. His season is over, and he’ll aim for a summer 2025 return.

A Critical Period for Spurs and Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur’s season now hinges on April’s congested schedule, with matches against Chelsea, Southampton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool sandwiching the Europa League double-header against Eintracht Frankfurt.

For Ange Postecoglou, whose position is again under scrutiny, reinforcements like Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski could make all the difference. If Spurs are to reignite their season, they’ll need both fitness and form to align – quickly.
