The last time the U.S. Women’s National Team took the field, the ladies lost 2-1 to Japan, subsequently losing the SheBelieves Cup.  That was the first loss under Emma Hayes and ideally will be the last one for quite a while.

However, the USWNT has two challenging games ahead of them against Brazil, with the first one coming this weekend.  This will be the Gold Medal rematch, for the national teams faced off for the gold medal at the Paris Summer Olympics.  The US beat Brazil 1-0, so it is expected that revenge will be on the minds of the CONMEBOL side.

At the same time, the USWNT will want to grab that win after their loss to Japan.  The different desires should ultimately lead to an entertaining matchup.

USWNT Predicted Starting XI

Hayes will likely utilize different lineups for both games as she continues to experiment with different players.  Here's how she might set up her side on Saturday, possibly in a 4-2-3-1:

Goalkeeper: Jane Campbell

Left back: Crystal Dunn

Right back: Emily Fox

Defensive midfielders: Lily Yohannes and Sam Coffey

Attacking midfielder: Lindsey Heaps

Left winger: Ally Sentnor

Striker: Catarina Macario

Right winger: Trinity Rodman

Notably, Rodman should be limited to the first half of the game as she readjusts to the team, with either Yazmeen Ryan or Alyssa Thompson to replace her.  Avery Patterson should make her USWNT debut as well.  But this lineup would give Hayes another look at a mix of experienced and inexperienced national team players.  The center-back pairing of McKeown and Sonnett is a great example.

Score prediction

The USWNT and Brazil should play a tight match as long as Hayes goes with a mixed lineup and continues to experiment.  A 2-1 U.S. win may be the most likely outcome, with a substitute scoring a late goal to get the win.  Campbell should be stellar in goal and will keep her team in the game for all 90 minutes.  Brazil will be threatening, but the USWNT will be, for the most part, defensively solid.
