Reece James was asked to explain Chelsea’s shocking defeat to Legia Warsaw at home in midweek when he was interviewed after the game, and one of the reasons he found was that the team hadn’t “prepared right.”

It was an interesting take, and one that manager Enzo Maresca agreed with, despite the implicit criticism of the way the coach had got the team ready for this game.

Well what’s interesting about all this is that Chelsea have released their standard training video from the week showing the players preparing for that game.

After a warmup and some shooting practice you can see James doing solo work strengthening his hamstring.

The players then sit on their static bikes, push sleds and do all the normal physical stuff you’d expect from a warmup session. They’re all having fun, but it would be harsh to say there was anything notably different to the buildup to a Premier League game.

You can see the training session in the video embedded here:

Pedro Neto finishes from a tight angle in training.

The footage then flips to post-Legia training, with the team looking to prepare for tomorrow’s massive game against Fulham. Even in that short clip there’s a lot of very notable moments from both Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto, who are surely being lined up to start against the Whites tomorrow.

Jadon Sancho has picked up some assists in recent games, but we want to see those two more direct attackers bringing some speed and penetration to Maresca’s chosen XI tomorrow.

We need the likes of Madueke and Neto to really stretch the Fulham defence to create space for Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson. Getting them scoring is essential, and we need to pick the best wingers to do just that.
