Journalist Antonio Vitiello has urged AC Milan to try and get Antonio Conte as their next head coach, but believes Fabio Paratici might go for someone else.
It now seems to be common knowledge that Milan are heading for a summer revolution, including the hiring of a new sporting director and most likely a new head coach, plus some big changes in the playing squad too.
Various names have been mentioned as the potential next manager, from the likes of Max Allegri and Maurizio Sarri to Conte and Roberto De Zerbi. All seem to have the theme of being Italian or at least knowing the league well, implying a change in direction from the ‘European’ approach.
Conte provided some hope that he might become available, ironically after beating Milan. Anto Vitiello published his weekly column for MilanNews which centred around the lessons learned a couple of days ago in Naples, and he returned to the theme of the head coach position.
“The original sin was not choosing Antonio Conte, who would have been a guarantee to get to the top four. After deciding not to invest in the Apulian coach’s salary, Milan are now burning over 60 million euros for the failure to enter the Champions League.
“And whoever says that the reason was the market demands, can easily answer that the Devil spent over 100 million in transfers between the summer and winter sessions, to be ninth in the standings.
“So the third objection that is usually made concerns the character problem. Is Conte an imposing figure? Well, it is better to have a imposing figure than to make a terrible impression by finishing ninth. Where the economic damage is also considerable.
“At any club, those responsible for such a failure would have been relieved of their duties. We will see at the end of the season if there will be farewells. In order to recover, with a year’s delay, Milan must take Conte, they must go for a certainty.
“But since the path remains equally difficult for the same reasons as last year, then Fabio Paratici could focus on Roberto De Zerbi, a completely different profile. As said a week ago, the former Juventus manager remains the most advanced name of all, and according to rumors he is already thinking about how to move in case he were to sign for the Diavolo.
“Also because the discussions with Giorgio Furlani on the financial guidelines have already taken place. Especially without the Champions League, Milan will not have a large budget and a big boost is needed from the sale of some players.
“For Paratici we will still have to wait before making it official, but if things go in the right direction, the reconstruction of Milan will be entrusted to him. The name of De Zerbi has returned strongly to the fore after some surveys last summer, the Marseille coach could be the future coach of the Rossoneri.”
