Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates tonight in a Premier League fixture rescheduled due to Palace’s progress in the FA Cup. Though it’s a league game on paper, its context is anything but routine. This is a contest framed not by the present table, but by what lies ahead.
Originally set for the weekend, the match was brought forward to Wednesday after Palace booked their place in the FA Cup semi-final. However, manager Oliver Glasner was left frustrated by the decision not to move the game to Tuesday, especially as Aston Villa, their Wembley opponents, had the luxury of playing Manchester City a day earlier.

Glasner’s response was measured but firm: “Of course we would have preferred more time to prepare. But we’ll be ready.”
For Mikel Arteta, the Premier League is no longer a priority. Arsenal have one eye on next week’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, with squad rotation expected tonight. Should Arsenal slip up, the repercussions could ripple through the league, potentially handing Liverpool the title before Sunday’s showdown against Tottenham.

Arteta is expected to rest several key players, which may give Palace greater belief in their ability to snatch a result and maintain rhythm before their own Wembley outing.
