An insight into the path which would be taken in the case of Real Madrid refusing to play tomorrow’s Copa del Rey final has been provided.
The info comes courtesy of Relevo, and confirms that Real Sociedad would be called up to replace Los Blancos in the case of as much.
The subject of Real Madrid’s plans for Saturday’s Copa showpiece have of course dominated the headlines across Spain over the course of the day to date.
After referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea and his team of officials set alarm bells sounding behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu by way of a series of head-turning comments in their pre-match press conference, Florentino Pérez and co. called for immediate action.
Swiftly following were a string of reports that Real were considering simply not showing up for the fixture, should the officials not be replaced.
In the end, Los Merengues confirmed that this will not be the case, adamant that they will fulfill their commitments as scheduled.
But, in the case of another change of heart, how exactly would the RFEF deal with the matter?
As alluded to above, Relevo have tonight revealed as much, confirming that Real Madrid would essentially ‘forfeit’ the fixture in the case of not turning up.
As much would culminate in not only expulsion from the tournament, but a ban for next season’s Copa del Rey, too.
And in their place, facing Barcelona in the finale would be Real Sociedad, the side whom Carlo Ancelotti’s Real sent packing from the competition at the semi-final stage.
