Leeds United may have to look elsewhere for a left-back as Wolves look to keep Hugo Bueno next season.
Leeds United are in a great position as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League under Daniel Farke.
Even though they still have work to do, the recruitment team at Elland Road will have to plan ahead, and they will have a host of names they want to pursue if they do go up.
The step up from the Championship to the top-flight has been highlighted recently, with all promoted clubs set to be relegated for the second year on the bounce.
So, Leeds’ summer window has to focus on quality over quantity, and it’s clear that certain areas need to be addressed.
One of those is left-back, with Junior Firpo’s contract expiring, and it has been claimed Wolves' Hugo Bueno is someone Leeds want to sign.
However, in a fresh update from The Express & Star, it has been said that Wanderers want to keep the Spanish Under-21 international at Molineux to become part of their squad next season, after his successful loan at Feyenoord in the current campaign.
Therefore, Leeds may be forced to look elsewhere, and so, Football League World takes a look at THREE alternatives the West Yorkshire outfit should consider…
Leeds may benefit from adding Premier League experience to their squad, and Chilwell fits the bill on that front.
The England international has seen his career stall over the past few years, with a combination of injuries and falling down the pecking order at Chelsea.
That resulted in a loan to Crystal Palace in January, but that hasn’t particularly gone to plan either, as he has struggled for regular game time at Selhurst Park.
So, another fresh start will appeal to Chilwell, and he should be available on a loan. If Leeds can get him anywhere near his best, the 28-year-old could be a real asset for the side, and his attacking instincts make him a perfect fit for Farke.
This is a player that Leeds know well, as Davis was at the club earlier in his career, but he had to leave in search of more minutes - and he has gone on to flourish.
This season has been tough for Davis, with Ipswich set to go down, and there’s no denying he has made some errors.
However, it’s far too soon to write the 25-year-old off at this level, and he will have benefited from this year spent in the Premier League, which could make him a better all-round player.
Again, he offers so much going forward with his delivery and energy, so he would be a like-for-like replacement for Firpo in that sense.
Finally, Leeds could look abroad, and AZ Alkmaar left-back David Moller Wolfe would be a real coup for Leeds.
He has been outstanding in the Eredivisie in the past two years, as well as previously impressing in Norwegian football with Brann and Asane respectively, and he has now become a regular for Norway's national side.
This would be a difficult deal to do, as Wolfe has been linked with the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea in the past, which shows his talent has been recognised.
But, unlike those clubs, Leeds would be able to guarantee Wolfe first-team football, and with the Norwegian only turning 23 on 23 April, that’s hugely important at this stage of his career.
