It now seems that Manchester City are moving quickly to sign their talented youngsters to contract extensions. Fabrizio Romano has reported that City are hoping to sign talented young playmaker Divine Mukasa to a new contract. That is a smart move from the world champions as Mukasa appears destined to develop into a special player. Now another report has emerged that Nico O’Reilly is set to sign a contract extension with Manchester City. As City embark on a rebuild their talented youngsters are set to play a key role in Manchester City’s rebuild.
Phil Thomas and Kostas Lianos have reported for the Sun that Nico O’Reilly is set to sign a 5-year contract extension with Manchester City. It is also included in Thomas and Lianos’ report that Chelsea do have an interest in signing O’Reilly in the summer. They also had an interest in signing the talented young midfielder in January as per the Sun’s report. That interest was rebuffed by City as they see Nico O’Reilly as an important player in their future.
Nico O’Reilly has impressed on the pitch for Pep Guardiola’s side over the past week. He put in a match-defining cameo against Bournemouth in Manchester City’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win at the Vitality Stadium. From there he has started each of Manchester City’s past two matches at left-back against Leicester City and Manchester United. In those games, O’Reilly’s tremendous technical ability and all-around ability have shone through. With his talent, potential, size and athleticism the attributes O’Reilly has are what Manchester City needs. Especially in midfield. You do feel at some point that O’Reilly will move from left-back to midfield. That’s his natural position, and it appears that with his reported contract extension he will naturally progress into that role.
Based on the new report from the Sun it appears that Nico O’Reilly is set to extend his contract with Manchester City. That is great news for City as they continue their rebuild this summer.
