AC Milan proved yet again that they are “the worm in the apple” for Inter Milan with their Coppa Italia semifinal triumph yesterday.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Yesterday, Inter Milan and AC Milan squared off for the fifth time this season.
The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri had met in two Serie A derbies, in the Supercoppa Italiana, and this month, in the Coppa Italia semifinals.
And somewhat shockingly, Inter have now managed to go five derbies without a win.
Prior to this campaign, Inter had won six in a row. These included 3-0 and 5-1 thrashings of their city rivals, and an historic match in which they clinched the Serie A title and the second star.
But the Rossoneri are paying Inter back. With interest.
Milan had already denied Inter one trophy, by coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the Supercoppa Italiana final.
And now, the Rossoneri have fully established their supremacy in the fixture for this season.

Inter Milan are the team joint-top of the Serie A table. They are also in the semifinals of the Champions League.
Milan, on the other hand, are ninth in the league table, and crashed out of Europe.
Therefore, on paper Inter are certainly the favourites any time the two teams meet.
Yet the Rossoneri have prevailed three times against Inter. Under two different coaches in what has been a truly tumultuous season for them. And they’ve held them to a draw twice more.
That has given Milan a chance to finish their season with two pieces of domestic silverware. Whilst Inter could very conceivably go trophyless at the end of the campaign.
The Rossoneri have proven that the Milan derby is always a match that exists outside the form table.
They are the “worm in the apple” for Inter in a season where nearly everything has gone wrong for them, and nearly everything right for their city rivals.
