Adrien Rabiot (29) made his return to the Parc des Princes on Sunday night. A hostile reception was expected for the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, who now plies his trade for fierce rivals Olympique de Marseille. The France international captained OM as they lost 3-1, leaving PSG on the verge of wrapping up the title.

Off the pitch and in the stands, there were offensive chants and banners directed at Rabiot and his mother, Véronique. One of them read: “Loyalty for men, betrayal for whores – like mother, like son.” Six years after his departure from formative club PSG, it was a rude return for the Frenchman, who was also booed and jeered every time he touched the ball.

Rabiot’s mother to press charges

Speaking to France Info this morning, Véronique Rabiot responded, saying that she “did not understand why the match was not stopped.”

She added, “I don’t understand why no one is indignant,” before confirming that she would be pressing charges. The LFP’s disciplinary committee will also study the case later this week.

Adrien Rabiot has now taken to social media to respond. “Insulting a mother and a dead father – you pay for everything someday. You will not go to heaven, trust me,” he began before then targeting PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

“Nasser, you can have all of the money in the world, even more, but you can’t buy class,” said the Marseille midfielder. PSG are yet to comment on the banners and chants.
