Liverpool have been dealt a fresh injury worry after goalkeeper Alisson was forced off following a clash of heads while playing for Brazil.
The Reds shot-stopper was taken off with a suspected concussion after a nasty collision with former Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez during Brazil’s match against Colombia.
Afterwards, Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar provided an update on the 32-year-old’s condition.
“(Alisson) Becker suffered a trauma to the head region, he was replaced by a suspected concussion,” said Lasmar.
“Now we will do all the CBF protocol, he will undergo recommended imaging tests, a computed tomography, then a resonance with diffusion.
“If all the tests are normal, we’ll follow up and do a cognitive test. And then we will evaluate the player.
“In the possibility that everything is normal, we will make a sequence of observations in the coming days. Today, we will do the tests, all the necessary evaluations.
“Alisson is normal, with no complaints. He reported no fainting and no memory loss. He thought it was a little slower. In this scenario, the recommendation is the replacement of the player.”
Vinicius Jr scored a late winner for Alisson’s side as they beat Colombia 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier following Raphinha’s early opener.
The injury blow comes as a concern for Liverpool who are also sweating on the fitness of Ryan Gravenberch after he pulled out of the Netherlands squad with an injury.
Gravenberch suffered a knock in the Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle and subsequently pulled out of the squad to face Spain in the Nations League.
In a statement on social media, the Netherlands national team said: “The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain.”
Liverpool take on Merseyside rivals Everton after the international break, hoping to move one step closer to securing the Premier League title.
They currently hold a 12-point lead over Arsenal with nine games left to play.
