Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou revealed the disappointing news that Son Heung-min will miss tomorrow’s game against Frankfurt, and has not travelled with the squad to Germany.

Son had an injury to his foot that led to him missing the 4-2 defeat to Wolves at the weekend, and has not recovered in time for this crucial clash against the German side.

Postecoglou said: “Sonny didn’t travel and he’s the only one who hasn’t travelled. He’s been struggling with his foot for a couple of weeks now and has been in pain. Everyone else is good. Kevin [Danso] trained and is available.”

Speculation about his job has been rife, but the Australian insisted it is not on his mind: “I don’t define my career or me as a person by what people think of me. If you don’t think I’m a good coach that’s not going to change because of what happens tomorrow. I couldn’t care less. We’ve got a great opportunity tomorrow and I’m not going to let that slip by without fighting tooth and nail.”

The first leg finished 1-1 last week, with Pedro Porro and Hugo Ekitike getting the goals, and Postecoglou knows the Europa League is now Spurs’ last chance to salvage this season.

The club’s main striker, Dominic Solanke, is without a goal in 11, and will have to step up in the absence of Son, but Postecoglou said he is not concerned with Solanke’s performances: “Dom’s working really hard for the team and he’s going to be important for us tomorrow night. We’re looking forward to his contribution.”

Frankfurt have been in patchy form of late, winning two of their last five, but they will be buoyed by the fact they are at home. Postecoglou, however, said his players are used to tough atmospheres: “Playing away in Europe is always a challenge. The experiences we’ve had this year have been good for that. We’ve visited Galatasaray away, Ibrox, and a lot of our younger players have been exposed to that.”
