A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is thought to have taken to the pitch in the club’s colours in the Champions League for the very last time on Wednesday.
That’s according to Blancos insider Arancha Rodríguez, who points towards Luka Modrić as the player in question.
Real Madrid are of course fresh off another evening to forget on the continent.
After welcoming Arsenal to Spain’s capital for the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie between the clubs, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops were put to the sword by two goals to one, making for an embarrassing 5-1 aggregate result.
The aforementioned Luka Modrić, for his part, was introduced off the bench at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Real Madrid in desperate search of some control in the middle of the park.
And as alluded to above, despite the Croatian having performed admirably, this may well have marked the very last occasion on which he features for the reigning Spanish champions in European competition.
As per a report from the aforementioned Arancha Rodríguez of COPE, ahead of the expiration of Modrić’s contract terms in the summer:
‘It looks like this was Modrić’s last Champions League match with Real Madrid.’
