Borussia Dortmund

BVB put on a superb fight in midweek against LaLiga leaders Barcelona, but their 4-0 defeats in the first-leg was a mountain to climb in the end. Niko Kovac’s side will now shift their focus in replicating that form in the league to return to Champions League next season.

After successive victories against Freiburg and Mainz, Dortmund salvaged a draw away from home against Bayern Munich last week. With teams above them dropping points in recent weeks, a Champions League qualification is still a possibility for the Black and Yellows.

There is a six points gap between them and fourth-placed RB Leipzig before the final five rounds of the season. However, the initial focus should be on getting past Mainz, Freiburg and their Sunday’s guests, Gladbach.

Team News

Emre Can and Carney Chukwuemeka missed training sessions during the week, and they could miss Sunday’s game accordingly. Dortmund also plan to have Marcel Sabitzer back before the end of the season. Nico Schlotterbeck is out until the start of next season due to a meniscus injury.

Borussia Mönchengladbach

Gerardo Seoane’s team improved a lot in 2025, but the past few weeks could cost them a chance to play in Europe next season. Following a disappointing draw in Pauli, Gladbach lost at home to Freiburg.

If they fared better in the last couple of weeks, there would’ve been a big chance of climbing to a Champions League spot by now. The remaining fixture list is going to be tricky for the Foals as they’ll also face Bayern in the penultimate round.

Compared to the previous seasons, this campaign would be considered as a big success for Roland Virkus. Nonetheless, it’s a perfect chance to put back the club in European competition, which will help massively in a difficult time for them financially.

Team News

Following the Freiburg game, Nico Elvedi, Robin Hack, Rocco Reitz and Franck Honorat all felt something in their muscles. Among them, Elvedi is the only one expected to play on Sunday. Meanwhile, experienced goalkeeper Jonas Omlin could make his return after training with the team during the week.
