Jonathan David’s (25) future seems to lie not only far from Lille OSC but also far from France. However, his Canada teammate, Derek Cornelius (27) has now invited him to join him at Olympique de Marseille.
David is all but certain to leave Lille upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, even if he is yet to publicly confirm his impending departure. There is considerable competition for the Canadian’s signature. On the continent, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Juventus are all in the race. Speaking recently on the It’s Called Soccer podcast, David revealed a preference to play in La Liga, whilst he has previously spoken about a dream of playing for Barcelona.
However, there is plenty of interest from the Premier League, too, with Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and West Ham United all in the race, according to The I.
However, Canada international Cornelius is now lobbying for his teammate to remain in France and join Marseille. “He’s a good guy. Maybe Mehdi (Benatia, Marseille sporting director) should phone his agent to convince him! We aren’t speaking about that, but if he wants to, we’d welcome him with open arms,” he said during a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
