Celtic submit offer to sign former PSG midfielder

There are several roles where Celtic do not have much depth at the moment. One of them is a defensive midfielder. It is a problem that the club have struggled to sign for quite some time now. Callum McGregor often finds himself playing in the deepest of the midfield three although he does have the ability to find the back of the net.

Celtic have had players like Ismaila Soro, Oliver Abildgaard and Tomoki Iwata in recent years. But none of those defensive midfielders have been able to nail down a spot in the starting XI despite finding success elsewhere.

Now, it looks like the Hoops have set their eyes on another defensive midfielder. As reported by Africafoot, Celtic have made an initial offer of €2 million for Kalidou Sidibe.

Sidibe currently plays in Ligue 2 for Guingamp. He stands at six feet seven inches and is considered the tallest player in the French second division right now.

Sidibe, who is 26 years of age, has taken on a new dimension at Guingamp. He has truly established himself as the leader of the team's midfield under the management of Sylvain Ripoll. He has scored 2 goals and provided 5 assists this season, as his team are 5th in Ligue 2 right now.

At one point in time, Sidibe was part of the youth ranks at PSG. He was not able to make it to the senior ranks at the club though. Other than that, he has also played for Toulouse in the past.

Of course, Celtic fans would not have been expecting the Hoops to try and sign a player from the French second division. That does not mean there is no talent to be found there. N'Golo Kante was playing in Ligue 2 just a year before ending up at Leicester City. The rest is history.
