Fabrizio Romano is among the insiders who have made it very clear that Chelsea will be looking for another striker this summer.

The Blues have held fire in the last couple of windows looking for the perfect option to come along, and it’s now rather come back to haunt them. With both Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu out for almost two months now, it’s cost us dearly.

It should be no surprise then that Romano has said we’re ready to spend “important money” up front, and that we’re being strongly linked to a forward who will be on the move this summer.

Hugo Ekitike has 19 goals and 7 assists for Frankfurt this season, and is now “top of the list” for Chelsea and Arsenal. The 22 year old is the right age and the perfect profile for us, and we can see us making a huge effort to sign him.

Romano posted today that the striker is “expected to leave Frankfurt in the summer”, and that “Premier League clubs have already started calling” about what it would take to bring him in this summer.

After a difficult period at PSG, Ekitike is finally showing the talent that got him there in the first place, and the only real question left is how much he would cost.

Frankfurt hold all the cards, with plenty of contract left for the striker and lots of teams interested. They’ve proved masters at getting huge fees for attackers they’ve sold in recent years, with Omar Marmoush’s move to Man City being the latest example.

We were linked with the rangy forward when he was still at Reims – now surely we’ll be more decisive.
