Chelsea and Newcastle United have both spoken to the representatives of Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, who is open to leaving the German side this summer.

Bayern Munich are willing to listen to offers for the South Korean centre-back, following a mixed time with the club.

Juventus are also admirers of Min-jae, who excelled at Serie A rivals Napoli before his €50m move to Bayern in 2023. That deal made Min-jae the most expensive Asian footballer of all time.

At Napoli, the centre-back was named Serie A’s Best Defender as the Italian side won a drought-breaking league title in 2022/23. That season, he led the league for percentage of dribblers tackled (86.2%) and ranked fourth for clearances.

He has helped Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga table this season and ranks among the Bundesliga’s top players for touches (2nd), pass completion (5th), progressive passes (6th) and aerial duels won (9th).

However, the 28-year-old has also made more errors leading to goals (4) than any other player.

Newcastle are keen to strengthen at centre-back, with Fabian Schar (33) and Dan Burn (32) into their thirties and Sven Botman struggling with injury issues.

Chelsea are also keen to bring in a more experienced option at the heart of their backline. Sky Germany have revealed that both sides have opened talks with Min-jae’s camp.
