One year after his arrival, Frédéric Massara is set to leave Stade Rennais this summer. It has been a tumultuous year for the Breton club, who, despite holding European ambitions, have found themselves closer to the relegation zone for much of the season.
There has been failed recruitment with many of the players brought in over the summer making hasty exits in January, whilst even some of the signings brought in during the winter window have failed to find their feet; Kyogo Furuhashi and Mousa Al-Tamari have notably struggled, even if the defensive reinforcements have allayed any fears of an unlikely relegation to Ligue 2.
Massara’s days at Rennes are therefore numbered. L’Équipe now report that USL Dunkerque sporting director Demba Ba as a potential replacement. Whilst RC Strasbourg Alsace’s Loïc Désiré remains the favourite to succeed Massara, Ba, who has worked miracles with Dunkerque, a contender for promotion to Ligue 1, is a very credible target.
