Despite the derby win over Inter and the possibility of winning a second trophy, Gianluca Di Marzio still thinks AC Milan will make big summer changes.
Di Marzio was present in the Sky studios to take stock of the situation at the Rossoneri from the issue of the sporting director to the potential new coach, and the idea that Sergio Conceicao might not be so certain to leave after all.
“Can Conceicao stay? I don’t think so, honestly. Because I think that Milan want to start a new cycle, they want to start with a different project. It has been said that the sporting director will be chosen first,” he said (via MilanNews).
“He [the sporting director] hasn’t been chosen yet. Tare was met last week for 5 hours, then there were no new contacts with him. Tony D’Amico is another name that is definitely among the favourites, but he is under contract with Atalanta.
“It is a long contract and Atalanta is fighting for qualification for the Champions League. So evidently Milan don’t want to make the wrong choice and is continuing to reflect.”
If Milan were to win the final in Rome next month against Bologna, Conceicao would certainly have somewhat of a case to remain in charge. That being said, results in the league have not been good enough and a ninth-placed finish is currently very possible.
Fabio Capello urged the ownership and the leadership at Milan not to undergo a revolution in the summer because he believes there is already a solid base in place to build from. Whether they listen to this advice remains to be seen.
