Enzo Maresca believes Moises Caicedo is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world following Chelsea’s win against Tottenham on Thursday night.

The Blues picked up a huge three points as Enzo Fernandez headed home the only goal of the game in the second half  to move Chelsea back into the top four.

It was a huge win for Chelsea given Champions League rivals Manchester City and Newcastle had both won on Wednesday night so the pressure was on.

Caicedo one of the best in the world

Caicedo, who has earned praise for his performances this season was once again outstanding in the middle of the park, and was involved in two big moments during the game.

The Ecuador international was fouled by Pape Matar Sarr before the Spurs man found the back of the net with a strike from distance, whilst Caicedo also had a brilliant volley ruled out for Levi Colwill being fractionally offside.

Chelsea had a scare early on when Caicedo went down, but he was able to carry on and Maresca believes he’s one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

“In this moment I think he is one of the best or the best defensive midfielders in the world, he is doing fantastic,” he told Sky Sports.

“The best thing about Moi is that everyday he is working serious, he is very humble, very kind, he is polite, he is a fantastic guy and I feel today was another great performance.

Caicedo is still one yellow card away for serving a two game suspension, but he’s now gone three games without picking up a booking.

The 23-year-old needs to avoid picking up a booking in Chelsea’s next two games against Brentford and Ipswich, and he will avoid a two match ban at a crucial stage of the season.

Caicedo has shown with his performances this season how good he is and despite the vast investment in him he’s showing he’s worth every penny.
