Everton Consider Biereth as Forward Search Intensifies

Everton’s recruitment plans are already in motion ahead of what promises to be one of their busiest transfer windows in years. With contracts expiring, loanees returning, and a forward line in need of revitalisation, the Toffees are casting their net wide—and one name on the shortlist is Monaco’s Mika Biereth.

According to TEAMtalk, “Everton have shortlisted prolific Monaco star Biereth as a potential target for the summer, but it won’t be a straightforward deal to negotiate.”

Striker Options Running Thin

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s uncertain contract situation and Armando Broja’s likely return to Chelsea leaves Everton worryingly light in attack. Broja’s £30m option to buy is considered too steep for Everton’s current financial model. With a lack of permanent options, the club is being forced to look for alternatives with long-term upside.

Enter Mika Biereth. A former Arsenal academy graduate, the 22-year-old has forged a promising career since leaving north London. Stints in the Netherlands with RKC Waalwijk, in Scotland with Motherwell, and most recently in Austria with Sturm Graz showcased a forward on the rise. But it’s his recent spell in Ligue 1 that’s catching the eye.

“Biereth has long been touted to become a top player in the future and is living up to his potential with Monaco, where he’s notched 12 goals in 12 league games so far,” says TEAMtalk. For Everton, that sort of output—especially at a reasonable age—offers the sort of profile they desperately need.

Complexities Around Monaco Deal

Despite the clear interest, this won’t be a simple transaction. Biereth only joined Monaco in January for €15 million and is contracted until 2029. As the report notes, “The fact that Biereth has been with Monaco for less than half a season and is contracted until 2029 could make things difficult for Everton.”

Everton would need to submit a convincing proposal to prise him away from Ligue 1, likely exceeding what Monaco paid just months ago. It’s an ambitious move, and perhaps a signal that the Friedkin Group’s backing of David Moyes will come with some financial clout.

Wider Transfer Options Considered

Biereth isn’t the only name on Everton’s list. TEAMtalk reports that the club is “keeping tabs on Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson, who is currently on loan with Fiorentina.” The Icelandic international could offer versatility—capable of playing as a second striker or in the No.10 role, potentially filling Abdoulaye Doucouré’s boots if needed.

Fiorentina have first refusal at £14 million with a possible £3 million in add-ons, but Inter Milan’s interest could complicate matters further if Gudmundsson becomes available.

Evan Ferguson also remains on Everton’s radar, with Brighton needing to decide his future after a disappointing loan at West Ham. “TEAMtalk understands that Everton remain admirers and still believe he has top-class potential.”

Rebuild Already Underway

With eight players out of contract and five loanees under review, Moyes is preparing for sweeping changes. Biereth may not be the finished article, but he represents a forward-looking addition—young, proven in multiple leagues, and hungry to take the next step.

If Everton can convince Monaco to sell, and if they can present a project that entices Biereth to Merseyside, it may yet prove to be one of their shrewdest signings in recent years.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Biereth is exactly the kind of signing Everton should be targeting. He’s got a great scoring record, he’s young, and there’s a bit of hunger in him after moving around Europe and proving himself. A dozen goals in a dozen Ligue 1 games? That’s not to be ignored.

Yes, Monaco only just signed him, and yes, getting him out of a contract until 2029 won’t be cheap. But this is where smart recruitment makes a difference. We can’t afford to splash £30m on Broja, who hasn’t shown much in his time with us, so why not take a swing on someone like Biereth who’s still on the up?

I’m less sure about Ferguson after his spell at West Ham. There’s talent there, but he’s struggled to get going. Gudmundsson could be interesting, but only if we can fit him into the system properly.

Ultimately, we need goals. Calvert-Lewin is constantly touch-and-go with fitness. If Moyes wants to reshape this squad, he’ll need players like Biereth—hungry, mobile, and with something to prove. Let’s just hope we don’t miss out again.
