David Prutton has told FLW his verdict on QPR's current run of dismal form
David Prutton has revealed he is worried about QPR’s current run of form as the team slides into a relegation battle.
Martí Cifuentes’ side have lost five of their last six fixtures in the Championship, drawing the other.
This has seen them fall into the bottom half of the table with only seven games remaining, all but ending their hopes of a top six fight.
The gap to the relegation zone is now also only seven points, leaving the London outfit at risk of falling into the clutches of the chasing pack behind them.
Prutton believes there is a threat of relegation looming over QPR at the moment due to their poor run of form.
While their position in the table looks ok, the 43-year-old has claimed that points gap is one to be worried about going into these final seven games.
“That is an alarming run of form, and the threat of relegation does loom down at the bottom where you’ve got Plymouth, Luton and Derby,” Prutton exclusively told Football League World.
“It was a slow start from QPR, good middle portion of the season and now it feels like a sluggish, potentially, worrying end to it.
“I would be wary if I was QPR, I don’t think Martí Cifuentes would for one second allow his side to sleepwalk into what would be quite a hefty relegation battle with so many teams very, very similarly poised.
“But I am worried about it, I’m worried about the fact that run of form, which has seemingly snuck up on them over the last 10 games, sees them, yes from a positional point of view seemingly away from the bottom three, but from a points standing still very much in range of the teams underneath them.”
Next up for QPR is a home clash against Cardiff City on 5 April in a 3pm kick-off.
QPR have played Sheffield United, West Brom, Middlesbrough and Leeds in this run, which is a tricky run of fixtures to have in one bunch.
But defeats to Portsmouth and Stoke City also highlight that there are greater worries at play with Cifuentes’ side, as those were both winnable games.
The upcoming clash with Cardiff will be huge for both sides, as a win would give QPR some breathing room but a loss would bring the Bluebirds within two points of them.
If the Hoops don’t turn around their form, then their current total of 45 points might not be enough to survive in the Championship this year.
