Marcus Rashford may have already played his last game for Aston Villa.

The on-loan Manchester United star made the move to Villa Park in January to spend the remainder of the campaign plying his trade in a new environment after falling entirely out of favour with Ruben Amorim.

He has since enjoyed a new lease of life under Unai Emery, though, and hit the ground running in the claret and blue of the Midlands outfit.

In the 17 appearances Rashford made throughout his temporary spell, he recorded an impressive four goals and six assists, as well as overseeing numerous standout performances to influence matches – including the side’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

Rashford’s season comes to an untimely and abrupt end

Ahead of Villa’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Crystal Palace last Saturday, Emery confirmed that Rashford would be absent for the match and for the foreseeable future due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the build-up to the Wembley trip.

It was then further clarified that the 27-year-old is not expected to feature again this term. If he did, it would be in Villa’s penultimate Premier League fixture at home to Tottenham Hotspur on May 18; their final outing comes at Old Trafford against the Red Devils on May 25.

What next for Rashford?

When negotiating his mid-season departure, United included a £40 million option-to-buy in the forward’s loan agreement, giving the Villans the opportunity to sign him permanently and on a long-term deal if they were satisfied with his displays.

For that to happen, Rashford would also have to green-light the transfer himself, and reports have suggested he would snub the English side to instead pursue a move abroad to either Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain.

Football Insider claims Villa are now growing ‘increasingly convinced’ the Carrington graduate will sign for Champions League semi-finalists PSG – who’ve long held an interest in sanctioning his arrival at the Parc des Princes – when the window opens.
