Gianluigi Donnarumma (26) was the hero as Paris Saint-Germain progressed in the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Liverpool last week. However, the Italian’s future remains up in the air.

Donnarumma has not always impressed between the sticks for PSG and has often come in for criticism, especially for his performances in the Champions League. He even received a dose of criticism as recently as the first leg against Liverpool, where he could have done better with a late effort from Harvey Elliott.

Amid these unconvincing displays, there are also frequent links with a move for Lucas Chevalier, cited as Donnarumma’s successor at PSG“On this point, the directors have been clear: when we sign, all these rumours will stop on their own,” Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola told L’Équipe.

And that is the intention, at least as far as the Italian shotstopper is concerned. He has already made his desire to remain at the Parc des Princes clear. Talks over a renewal of the Italy international’s contract, which expires in 2026, are ongoing, Raiola confirmed.

He added, “Of course, there is no rift with the club. We’re taking the time that we need (in talks with PSG). We need to take our time and do things well in the player’s interest. But it is the only club where Donnarumma wants to sign. We’ll see how it ends but the priority is to extend at PSG.”
