Inter are chasing after Luis Henrique with great determination to beat the competition and bring him in before the Club World Cup, taking advantage of the early June transfer window. Olympique Marseille’s director, Mehdi Benatia, was spotted in the stands at San Siro during the recent Coppa Italia derby.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Nerazzurri are leading the race over Bayern Munich and other teams because they moved earlier. They wish to seal the deal in May to formalize it in the first ten days of the following month.
On the other hand, there’s a sizeable gap between the first offer tabled by Inter, €22/25M, and the price tag set by Olympique Marseille for Luis Henrique, €30/35M. The parties will need to continue haggling to meet halfway. The difference could be settled through some bonuses or a makeweight.
The Nerazzurri plot to make a strong proposal on personal terms to sort of block the player and protect themselves from his other suitors while they negotiate with his side. While the speedster has played in multiple offensive roles throughout his career, he has been starring as a right wing-back in a 3-4-1-2 scheme under Roberto De Zerbi this campaign.
Simone Inzaghi will decide once he sees him first-hand if and when he’ll join, but it’d be interesting to know which role they envision him for. It’d be a very big investment just to have a deputy with the same skillset and offensive prowess as Denzel Dumfries. Or perhaps his versatility is what attracts them. A switch to a formation that features wingers surely isn’t on the horizon.
