Inter Milan were virtually “playing with ten men” after the introduction of Joaquin Correa against Udinese yesterday.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Joaquin Correa had been expected to start for Inter Milan in yesterday’s match against Udinese.

With captain Lautaro Martinez out with an injury, the former Lazio forward would have a chance to shine.

However, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi then opted not to start Correa.

The Nerazzurrui coach instead went with Marko Arnautovic in attack.

And on the pitch, it was not terribly hard to see why.

Arnautovic gave Inter exactly the qualities that they needed against a tough, physical Udinese team.

The Austrian battled with centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Thomas Kristensen. Beyond his goal, he kept Inter up the pitch.

It was a different story after Correa came on to replace Arnautovic, however.

The Argentine lacked much of a presence in the physical battle with the Udinese defenders.

This gave up possession too many times. And it allowed the Friulani to push up more and more, as they searched for an equalizer.

Inter’s defense therefore came under a lot of pressure.

And Correa offered the team little in the way of an outlet from the onslaught that Udinese mounted.

Then, it was Correa who allowed Oumar Solet to breeze past him to score the goal that really sparked the late Udinese attack.

The other ten Nerazzurri players struggled to resist the late Udinese attacks. And it was as though Correa wasn’t there to help them.
