Omar Marmoush has admitted that Manchester City will do everything to overcome upcoming challenges to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Egypt international has scored four times in 10 appearances for the reigning Premier League champions since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million.
In what has often been an uninspiring Manchester City frontline this season, Marmoush has added serious goal threat and taken some pressure off Erling Haaland to deliver the goods.
A hat-trick against Newcastle United at home is as good a way to announce yourself to the Manchester City faithful – and the 26-year-old has since displayed glimpses of what the reigning Premier League champions could witness in the years to come.
Marmoush impressed once again at the weekend and scored a brilliant goal from outside the box to give Manchester City a slender advantage heading into the interval against Brighton and Hove Albion.
However, City remain locked in the race to finish in the Premier League top four as an Abdukodir Khusanov own goal early in the second half saw the spoils shared at the Etihad Stadium.
“It’s a challenge but we’ll do everything. We’ll put our head down and try to work as hard as we can. Always on (the) pitch give 100% and hopefully we will secure that (Champions League qualification),” the Egyptian said after the draw on Saturday.
“We have to try show our quality more, have more confidence on the ball, keep the ball more and just do what Manchester City always did.”
Marmoush has been thrown into the mix since his mid-season arrival and City will already be delighted with the impact the forward is making in a depleted squad that will witness upheaval in the summer transfer window.
“The players and staff are amazing at Manchester City. I’m just trying to learn everything I can and listen to the coach (Guardiola) and everything he tells us. I scored today but it wasn’t enough for three points so it’s not the best feeling. We’ll keep going,” the attacker added.
Marmoush will be keen to start against Bournemouth in the FA Cup and secure a semi-final trip to Wembley when Manchester City return to action after the international break in two weeks.
