Liverpool’s resurgence under Arne Slot has been incredible, but the treatment table at Anfield is fuller than desired as the campaign enters its decisive phase. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s enforced substitution against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League was the latest blow. Slot confirmed the right-back’s absence for the upcoming Premier League clash against Fulham, compounding Liverpool’s selection challenges.
Elsewhere, Alisson Becker remains sidelined following a concussion sustained while on Brazil duty. The goalkeeper’s absence from the Merseyside derby win was explained by Slot, who noted: “With Ali, it is simple: it is a concussion and you have to tick all the boxes. The moment he does, he will be in goal. The moment he doesn’t, we are following the protocol.”
The status of Conor Bradley, back in training after a muscle issue, remains unclear ahead of the next fixture. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez’s season looks all but over after surgery on a hamstring injury, with a potential return only in the campaign’s final days.
While Liverpool manage their own problems, events at Ewood Park have also delivered a blow. Owen Beck’s promising loan spell with Blackburn Rovers has been curtailed following a recurrence of a hamstring injury. After returning from a seven-game layoff, Beck lasted just 13 minutes against Portsmouth before succumbing again.
Blackburn manager Valerien Ismael confirmed:
“We have bad news about Owen Beck, who will be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, which will keep him out for at least eight weeks.”

Beck had firmly established himself as a regular under Ismael, featuring in 24 Championship matches and scoring once. His influence extended beyond numbers, with Ismael lamenting not just the player’s absence but the attributes lost with it:
“You’re not only losing players, you’re losing the profiles. You’re missing the energy and the intensity that Owen has and the physicality of Hayden, whilst both are versatile.”
The situation with Beck highlights the thin line between potential and setback in player development. After showing real promise in the Championship, his early return to Merseyside for rehabilitation is a reminder of the volatility of loan spells. For Liverpool, the hope will be that the 22-year-old can regain full fitness in time for pre-season, especially as discussions around left-back depth continue.
With multiple defenders either sidelined or nursing knocks, Slot’s ability to rotate and maintain intensity will be under scrutiny. While Beck’s development has taken a hit, his brief spell at Blackburn Rovers may still prove a useful audition for a bigger role next season—if his recovery allows.

The incident also reinforces the delicate balancing act Liverpool must maintain when sending young talent out on loan. Beck’s spell had ticked most boxes—regular minutes, strong performances, and adaptation to senior football. However, the abrupt end to his campaign now raises questions about conditioning and player load.
As Liverpool prepare for the run-in with a patched-up backline, the focus may quietly begin to shift to summer planning. Owen Beck’s name might not have been on many lips a few months ago, but the manner in which his Blackburn journey ends could yet influence decisions on squad depth for 2025–26.
