Liverpool to buy Alexander Isak with the money they get from Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Liverpool fans are consoling themselves about losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, by looking forward to seeing Alexander Isak playing at Anfield next season.

Social media is rife with Liverpool fans bemoaning the fact they are losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to the La Liga club this summer, only to then be rejoicing at the ‘fact’ that Alexander Isak will be wearing red in 2025/26, with photoshopped images populating social media, Isak in an imaginary Liverpool shirt.

I suppose at least Liverpool can at least put all the cash they will receive from Real Madrid for TAA, towards the £150m+ that would be needed, IF for any mad reason Newcastle United were willing to sell their star striker.

Actually, Liverpool could also add the cash they will receive for the other two of their best three players when they lose them this summer.

Yes, if the red scousers add the money they will get for Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, to that which they’ll bank for Trent Alexander-Arnold, then they will only need to find £150m+ to buy Alexander Isak, IF Newcastle United were bizarrely prepared to sell their best player.

This is the reality.

Before they stroll into St James’ Park and believe they can walk away with Alexander Isak, as easy as that, Liverpool face the small matter of losing their three best players for absolutely nothing this summer.

Before they can even think about their fantasy Alexander Isak signing, Arne Slot and Liverpool will first of all have to sign replacements for VVD, Salah and TAA.

Sign their replacements without having received a single penny for their three best players.

Those above Arne Slot have presided over a contract shambles.

As ‘one of their own’, Trent Alexander-Arnold may have behaved disgracefully in cynically running his contract right down to nothing, simply to enrich himself at the expense of the club he supposedly loves, but the Liverpool owners and senior employees have allowed it to happen. The same with Salah and Van Dijk, who in three months time will also become free agents.

In contrast, Newcastle United couldn’t be in a stronger position when it comes to contracts.

All of their key players who other clubs would love to have, all have more than three years left on their current deals, not three months…

If for a moment we play imaginary transfer fantasy football and say Newcastle United were willing to sell Alexander Isak for £150m+ this summer, does anybody believe for one second that the Liverpool owners (who are persistently criticised for not spending big enough on transfers) would suddenly spend £350m (probably more) or so to bring in their new first choice central defender, right winger and right-back, as well as other squad strengthening AND Alexander Isak???

Liverpool fans (and those of other clubs) are always keen to ignore the other ‘minor’ details as well.

As to why Alexander Isak would be willing to leave a club that he loves being at.

A club that is the most recent Premier League one to win a trophy.

A club that as things stand is on course to qualify for the Champions League (three points from the Palace home game in hand would currently have Newcastle fourth in the table).

A club with what are said to be the richest owners in the world.

A club with zero contract pressure to sell from that contract perspective.

A Newcastle United, who if they want to build on winning a trophy and if hopefully getting Champions League football again, will be massively looking to Alexander Isak as the key player to help deliver that.

The idea of Newcastle United willingly selling Alexander Isak, is about as believable as thinking that Liverpool can use the money from the departures of Mo Salah,, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold to pay the £150m+ that would be needed, IF NUFC bizarrely were willing to sell.
