Arne Slot may be tempted to freshen up Reds attack at Anfield after painful Carabao Cup final defeat

Liverpool will remain without Trent Alexander-Arnold for the latest Merseyside derby against Everton, but Alisson Becker and Ryan Gravenberch are both set to play.

Alexander-Arnold, on the verge of sealing a free summer transfer to Real Madrid, has not featured since suffering an ankle injury during the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain earlier in March, missing the recent Carabao Cup final defeat by Newcastle at Wembley.

News of the England right-back’s impending agreement with the Spanish giants broke during the international break, with Alexander-Arnold unable to form part of Thomas Tuchel’s first Three Lions squad.

He is said to be targeting a return to the pitch before the end of April for his final few weeks as a Liverpool player.

There is no such wait for Alisson and Gravenberch, both of whom took full part in training at Kirkby on Monday after recent fitness scares and have been confirmed as fit to play by Slot.

First-choice goalkeeper Alisson suffered a concussion during Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualifying win over Colombia last week and returned to Liverpool early ahead of the humiliating defeat by Argentina, now on track to return to the starting XI after deputy Caoimhin Kelleher got the nod at Wembley.

Gravenberch withdrew from the Netherlands squad ahead of their two-legged Nations League quarter-final tie against Spain with an unspecified problem sustained against Newcastle.

Conor Bradley is said to be making impressive progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, but won’t be ready to play against Everton. Likewise Joe Gomez, who was seen doing some light running drills back out on the grass on Monday as he works his way back from hamstring surgery.

No Alexander-Arnold, Bradley or Gomez still should mean that versatile centre-back Jarell Quansah lines up at right-back against Everton, as he did in the Carabao Cup final.

Arne Slot may choose to freshen up elsewhere after successive setbacks and an uncharacteristically tired and toothless performance against Newcastle, with Harvey Elliott - who has shaken off a knock suffered late on at Wembley - and Federico Chiesa combining for the goal that set up a grandstand finish in stoppage time. Both are players that fans generally want to see more of.

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez are other possible options for the attack, while Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones may be pushing for more minutes in midfield.

Tyler Morton was also back in training on Monday after shoulder surgery, but is unlikely to be considered for first-team involvement.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson, Quansah, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Gakpo

Injured: Alexander-Arnold, Bradley, Gomez
