Olympique Lyonnais have suffered a week to forget after they were cruelly eliminated from the Europa League by Manchester United and had their Champions League hopes dented in a defeat to local rivals AS Saint-Étienne on Sunday evening.
According to a report from Le Progrès, these two results have left a mark on Paulo Fonseca’s short tenure, with some within the Lyon dressing room questioning his and his coaching staff’s decisions.
The Lyon-based outlet writes that Corentin Tolisso and Alexandre Lacazette are unhappy with Fonseca’s decision to give the keys to the club to the younger players like Rayan Cherki, Georges Mikautadze, and Moussa Niakhaté.
With Le Progrès writing that some people close to the locker room have questioned the manager’s ability to handle big egos, a criticism that was made during the six months he spent in charge of AC Milan at the start of the season.
Nemanja Matić, who was reported to have picked up a knock ahead of the match against Saint-Étienne, is said by the paper to have been left out of that game because he was hurt by the decision not to field him across either of the two legs against his former team, Manchester United.
