Celtic can win the Premiership title next weekend after Rangers lost against Hibs. The Ibrox club had to keep winning to delay Celtic’s title until the first weekend after the split. However, David Gray’s side dispatched Rangers at Ibrox, setting up a Celtic Park title party.

The victory means that Celtic can clinch the title before Easter and the Premiership split but, most importantly, gives  Brendan Rodgers’ side the chance to deliver the title at Celtic Park. The first time since May 2018. The majority of Celtic supporters have had to watch the title success on televisions at home and in pubs and clubs. Although, with the result at Ibrox today, Brendan’s team can win the title at Celtic Park if they beat St Johnstone tomorrow before beating Killie next weekend.

It has been almost seven years since Celtic won the title at Celtic Park. On that famous day, Brendan’s side cruised to a 5-0 win against Rangers thanks to goals from Odsonne Edouard (x2), James Forrest, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor. Celtic were five up with over thirty minutes remaining and should have really pressed on and scored more.

Celtic fans that have been lucky enough to get away tickets have been able to celebrate bringing the title back to Paradise with wins on the road. There was an emphatic victory at Rugby Park last season. Brendan Rodgers secured the title in his first season back at the club, winning sensationally away to Kilmarnock. Derek McInnes’ side had beaten Celtic twice at Rugby Park that season (once in the League Cup) but they were blown away by Celtic’s front line.

In Ange’s two seasons, the draw at Tannadice got Celtic across the line in his first campaign. The Australian followed up that success with a title win at Tynecastle. The Gorgie side callously cut the Celtic allocation, meaning that a number of fans missed out. Some (like me) braved the Hearts end and managed to end up undetected and escape unscathed. Goals from Kyogo and Oh secured the title in front of a small away following.

The title success in 2020 was taken away by COVID-19, meaning that the celebrations were confined to the internet with supporters abiding by the regulations in place at the time. The season before, after Neil Lennon returned to the club to take over from Rodgers, Celtic secured the title with a win at Pittodrie against Aberdeen.

Celtic supporters will be eager for the team to get the wins over the line against St Johnstone to set up a decider against Kilmarnock, which can bring the title back to Paradise for the fourth consecutive season. It will be a sold-out Celtic Park next weekend with the game live on Sky Sports.
