Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo was at the centre of a worrying situation last December.
Around Christmas time, Olmo faced serious uncertainty regarding his future at the club. At one point, it seemed he might not play again for Barcelona this season, which left the player deeply concerned and unsettled.
The issue stemmed from an administrative setback that left Olmo temporarily unregistered. With no guarantee that the situation would be resolved quickly, the player was forced to consider the possibility of not playing for months.
It wasn’t until January, about a week after the issue arose, that the CSD stepped in. They granted a precautionary measure which allowed Olmo to remain eligible to play until at least April.
During the tense period, Olmo explored several scenarios in case things did not work out at Barcelona.
According to SPORT, one of the standout offers came from none other than Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side made an early approach, signalling their readiness to sign Olmo if he became available—even if it was just for a short stint.

It is said that City saw Olmo as an ideal fit for their playing style. The club was prepared to bring him in to ensure he would not miss the rest of the season due to registration issues.
The offer from City was not only about helping a talented player in need, but also a strategic move.
With Kevin De Bruyne’s influence slowly fading this season, the English champions had already started looking toward a future midfield setup without the Belgian.
Despite the attractive offer from Manchester City and interest from other elite sides, Olmo stayed committed to Barcelona.
Once the registration issue was resolved, he focused entirely on performing for the club.
However, the events of that winter window underline just how highly rated he is across Europe and how close he came to joining one of the world’s top teams.
Barcelona may have come close to losing a key midfielder, but Olmo’s patience and belief in his future at the club helped him overcome a very testing period.
